Fair Campaign Practices

Am I eligible to vote? To vote in New York State you must be:

  • A United States citizen;

  • 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file your application form. (Note: to vote you must be 18 by the date of the primary, general or other election in which you want to vote.);

  • Live at your present address at least 30 days before an election;

  • Not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction;

  • not claim the right to vote elsewhere

Not yet registered to vote?

Download a Voter Registration Form (pdf) from the Albany County Board of Elections web site to register by mail. Applications must be postmarked no later than October 9th and received by the Board of Elections no later than October 14th to be eligible to vote in the General Elections. You may also register in person through any local Board of Elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act; your application must be received by October 9th.

Going to be out of town on election day?

You may download the Albany County Absentee Ballot (pdf) form.

  • The last day to postmark an application or letter of application for an absentee ballot is October 27th.

  • The absentee ballot must be postmarked by Election Day, November 2nd or delivered in person to the Board of Elections by November 3rd.
